An EPC stands for Energy Performance Certificate. The EPC (certificate) shows the energy and emission efficiency of a Building asset. It highlights both the energy use and carbon emissions per square metre.

The focus of the front page is a graph – much like those you see for fridges and washing machines – which shows how well, in comparison to others your building performs.

The EPC comes with a separate Recommendation Report, suggesting ways to improve both the energy and emission use. Some of the ways the energy and emission use can be improved are…

1. Fit low energy lamps
2. Insulate any hot water tank, ensure that there’s a lot of insulation.
3. Insulate your Loft
4. Install cavity wall insulation
5. Fit double or triple glazed windows
6. Ensure your boiler is fully serviced

7. All the above should have visual access and/or paperwork available for inspection where possible
